Introduction Why is it that professional athletes get paid millions of dollars to play a sport, while there are people struggling to get by working three jobs? In my mind it makes absolutely no sense what’s so ever how people working forty plus hours have a salary that is penny change to professional athletes. “In fact, each basket Kobe Bryant scores earns him equivalent to the average classroom teacher’s yearly salary (bleacherreport.com)” This stat right here is the definition of disgusting. Professional athletes are getting paid more by the minute than many working Americans make in a year. For example, Giancarlo Stanton, who is an outfielder for the Miami Marlins, just signed a contract for $325 million and will be making a whopping $68,493 a day for the next thirteen years. Put that into consideration while there are many people trying to survive on the streets doing all they can to make any money that they can get their hands on. Even if Giancarlo Stanton does nothing baseball related one day, he will still be making more money than the average American makes in an entire year. We need to really think about the world’s economy and how we can improve it with the money that professional athletes get. Yes I know that many athletes donate money, but it shouldn’t have to be them donating it, it should just be going to things like that anyway. What is more important, paying someone to kick a football, or paying for ways to beat and figure out cancer? The kicker will get the money in the end and it’s all just for entertainment. Yes there is a lot of money that goes into cancer research every year, but there could be so much more if they would just realize the money that athlete’s is just not normal. Give the money to people in need and help this economy
