CHOOSING YOUR PERFECT LAPTOP A laptop is a personal computer that can be easily carried and can be used in a variety of places or location. According to the article “What Is a Laptop” by Strickland (2014), laptop can be define as a portable personal computer with a clamshell form factor, suitable for mobile use. The idea of laptop came from Alan Kay at Xerox PARC in 1968 (Maxwell, 2008), and he described his idea in a paperwork in 1972 named “Dynabook”. The first prototype which named as IBM Special Computer APL Machine Portable (SCAMP), was demonstrated in 1973 (Maxwell, 2008). The laptop which named as Epson HX-20 came with upgrade-version features of the Osborne 1. The Epson HX-20 had a rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries, LCD screen and 16KB RAM. Starting from that period, many companies such as HP and Tandy/RadioShack had produces many portable computer with varying designs and specification in order to fulfill the mankind need. From time to time, all companies that involved in the computer manufacturing industry have been trying to produce various types of laptops that can be commercialized all around the world. As a result, during the period, there have been various types of laptop with various classification that have been produced. Laptop can be classified into 7 categories which are traditional laptop, subnotebook, netbook, convertible, laplet, desktop replacement and rugged notebook (Z. Davis, 2008). Traditional laptop is a common laptop that usually been using peoples. The form of the laptop is “clamshell” laptop with a keyboard on the opposite of the inner side screen. For subnotebook categories, it is usually been use by an individual that need to bring their laptop wherever they go because subnotebook laptop is more small in size, light weight and same goes for the…show more content…
As a student, you need to consider the size of the laptop as it ease the portability. This enables you to take the laptop from class to back without any trouble. You must also be aware of the hard drive in your laptop before committing to buy one because a bigger space of hard drive benefits you a lot in saving your precious files. Other than that you should consider the processor as well because it affects your laptop performance on the whole. As a student, you are recommended to choose a modest processor due to reasonable price and able to install high-end software. Therefore I strongly believe that all the UTM students should be able to choose the perfect laptop after this. In the near future this problem is expected to be reduce or most likely vanish especially among the UTM
