“Why Clay Shirky Banned Laptops, Tablets and Phones from His Classroom”
This article is a professor’s reasoning for establishing a ban on electronics during his class. He makes a good argument and I agree with him, mostly based on the argument of the “second-hand smoking”.
His first argument is against multitasking in general. He points to the fact that there are already several studies showing multitasking is not effective and students retain less information on the long run. He also says that multitasking provides emotional gratification. The student feels good, because he thinks “wow, look how much I can do with time if I work on multiple things”, and does it more and more despite doing worse in these things he set out to do. I agree with
