McDonald's sells hamburgers, salads, coffee, and all sorts of other things. Panera Bread sells fresh bread, sandwiches, salads, coffee and all sorts of other things. In this case, the order is vital. McDonald is considered a hamburger restaurant, while Panera Bread is considered a sandwich and salad restaurant. That makes a big difference in today's world, where consumers are conscious about calories and cholesterol. I'm trying to say that a product used as an asset in the fast and convenient world in the 1960s has become a liability in the health conscious world of the 2000s. McDonald's needs to do more than adding to the salad bar to its stores to change its image. I also wanted to write about Starbucks. Core value proposition of it starts with "third place", a "affordable luxury", where people can share and enjoy a cup of coffee with friends and colleagues, from work and family. That certainly distinguishes the company from all other leading brands, although Panera Bread is trying to add this measuement to its new stores. bottom
