The provided evidence-based article addresses pain management. What is pain? Pain is subjective which means it is defined by the patient recognition of pain or in other terminology “whatever the patient says that it is.” Pain is often overlooked during assessment because there is no true indication that a nurse could use to tell if a patient is truly in pain. Some patient express pain through facial expressions, body postures, or through sounds such as moaning or crying and even vital signs. However, not all patients present with those “I am in pain” signs. In fact, some cultures do not even exhibit any signs of pain even though pain is present.
