The debate between organic and processed foods has been an extremely controversial topic over the past few decades. Food in general is a key source for all humans and is an everyday necessity. Food gives us nutrition and energy to live throughout our life. Moreover, the development of making foods has evolved and has changed from organic to processed foods in recent years. Organic foods are grown naturally with no type of preservatives, pesticides, and hormones “Organic Foods: What You Need to Know.” The method in which organic food is grown is much different than how processed food is grown. For example, because organic foods use natural fertilizers, compost, crop rotation, and careful breeding, there are many people that believe organic foods truly taste fresher and better. Also, because there are no substances or chemicals added to organic foods, most of the nutrients and healthy ingredients for the body stay intact compared to processed foods and how they are stripped of its healthy nutrients from all the chemicals. There have been studies that show much higher amounts of vitamin C, magnesium, phosphorous, and iron in organically produced foods “Organic Is Non-GMO & More.” Also, blood sugar goes through the roof because the fibers that slow down the release of sugar into the blood stream have been removed and the majority of vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals present foods are lost “Organic Is Non-GMO & More.” This piece of information has done so much for businesses, restaurants, and healthy customers that companies have used the marketing technique of “organic foods and its health benefits” as a main source of their advertising. Even in restaurants, many chefs brag about how they use organic ingredients in all their food and how it will taste better but also make you feel better compared to other restaurants. Organic farming contains many ways on developing biological diversity in order for there to be no room for pest organisms and their diseases so that the farmers can maintain soil fertility. Another benefit the organic foods does not do to the environment compared to processed food is the fact that there is no fertilizer or chemicals used which in turn reduces the amount of groundwater pollution and soil erosion. This also increases the biodiversity of animal, plant, and microbial life in a given biome. There have been many people called extremist and have been ridiculed because of how they wanted the environment to be based on health and nature compared to the “normal people” which used chemicals and fertilizers.
