As a young dreamer and optimistic on the outlook of my unfolding future, I would dream about lavish amounts of money and living in a flawless huge house with a balcony overlooking an outsized green yard, but those dreams were completely transformed when I surrendered my life to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I decided to give up all of my self-planned dreams for His dream. The dream Christ has instilled within my heart is to be a healer, to give wholeheartedly, and to love unconditionally. I want to be a healer because Christ healed me. I want to give wholeheartedly because Christ gave me himself wholly. I want to love unconditionally because Christ loves me perfectly. The more I began to understand the process and symptoms of cancer; I was beyond belief of how my mom survived it. I believe unquestionably that my family is a family of warriors. I lost my grandfather to melanoma, but I know he was a fighter. My grandmother defeated breast cancer twice. She is a fighter. I desire to be a nurse because of undefeatable warriors like my mom, grandmother, and grandfather. My family’s fight to defeat cancer inspires me to be a caregiver for babies, children, adults, and seniors that endure the same disease as well as other illnesses. A strong work ethic is a quality I hope to continue to possess throughout my lifetime because it is the foundation of where I define my success. In continuation, my volunteer experience at Georgia Regents Children’s Hospital of Georgia on the pediatrics oncology floor, has revealed to me my personal strengths as well as my personal weaknesses. My personal strengths incorporate: respectfulness, time management skills, communication skills, physical endurance, strong work ethic, and a relentless driven passion. A personal weakness of mine is I sometimes become very critical of myself, much because of my fear of failure, which at times can hinder me from achieving my goals. However, I am learning to overcome this weakness by realizing that all I can do is be the best of which I am capable. It will be because of the effort I give that will allow me to succeed in my academics and nursing school. I have made the dean’s list at Georgia Regents University each semester and I believe that was made possible because of the effort I gave to be the best at which I am capable.
