When it comes to talking about the game of basketball, the name Michael Jordan usually comes to people’s minds. Normally Michael Jordan was referred to as the greatest player to ever play basketball, Michael Jordan was also known as MJ. He wasn’t always the man he is today, Ever since I was younger I always looked up to MJ and his career, MJ did many great things. During this essay I will be discussing, his life growing up his life in the NBA. Born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York, Michael Jordan was the second to youngest of five children. He has two older brothers named Larry and James, an older sister named Roslyn, and a younger sister named Delores (Wikipedia). When Jordan was younger he and his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. As a young child Jordan was raised to be very strong willed and independent minded individual. He was taught to always work hard by his father, and was taught to clean, do laundry and sew by his mother. He remained focused and motivated because, “Whenever I was working out and got tired and figured I ought to stop, I’d close my eyes and see that list in the locker room without my name on it…that usually got me going again”(Michael Jordan). He grew four inches over summer and led his high school team to the state championship. Through his high school career he averaged about 20 points per game. As a senior, Mj was selected to the McDonald’s All American Team after averaging a triple double every game his senior year. He averaged 29.2 points per game, 11.6 rebounds per game, and 10.1 assist per game
