In Copland’s How We Listen, he says, "My own belief is that all music has an expressive power, some more and some less, but that all music has a certain meaning behind the notes and that that meaning behind the note constitutes, after all, what the piece is saying, what the piece is about." Ed Sheeran, the red headed British man with just a guitar and his voice, has captured the attention of millions. Every song Ed Sheeran writes and sings has a message or meaning behind it. Whether his music is about love, cheating, or a break up, the songs are outstanding. I absolutely love his acoustic version of "Thinking Out Loud." When listening to "Thinking Out Loud," the thought of myself growing old with the man I want to spend the rest of my life with comes to mind. Ed sings, "People fall in love in mysterious ways, maybe just a touch of a hand, but me, I fall in love with you every single day, and I just want to tell you I am...." Whomever I grow old with, he will love me just as much as he did when I was young. This song relates to how I would want my future to be with the man I end up marrying. Another verse Ed sings that I like very much is " Cause honey your soul could never grow old, it's evergreen...." Eventually everything will fade on a person, but what will remain the same is the person's heart. A person can’t really go based off of a person’s looks. It isn’t all about what is on the outside but more on what is in the inside of someone.
