In the novel “Invisible Man”, written by Ralph Ellison, there are many different examples of ways race is used as a symbol of power in there society. Throughout the book I realized a lot of issues regarding race, power, and obstacles all of those things caused for both blacks and whites. I agree that these factors are a big role in how race is viewed, but this is not to say that society hasn’t there changed views on racism. For as long as I remember race has been a problem in mine, and many other people’s life also. Some may say the racial discrimination is bad now but in reality it is extremely better than it was in the past. Many times in this book I noticed the very obvious amount of racial discrimination and biasedness, especially in places like the south. Although some say this type of inequality is just between white and blacks but in reality it is really two ways of inequality. All during Invisible Man it is very evident that there are multiple black males in charge and on the board at the college. One for example is Dr. Bledsoe, an African American male, is the president of the college. That being said you would assume that he would want the best for his college, and especially his race. “Power is confident, self-assuring, self-starting… When you have it, you know it.” (Ellison 142). In this quote he admits that he does not do his job for the good of the people at the college he does his job because he enjoys the self-centered power he feels. That being said it makes you believe that he doesn’t have the good of the school in mind, and in cases like this is when people second guess the people being put in
