Purpose: Question and what we aim to achieve specifically Question: Is Mathematics and Science, or Humanities more essential to our lives in the future? We are genuinely curious whether what we are learning in school now are knowledge that we would actually use in the future. Thus, through our research, we hope to be able to determine whether Mathematics and Science, or Humanities is more essential to our lives in the future. Hypothesis We predict that many people will prefer Mathematics and Science to Humanities, as these are more factual and applicable to a larger scope of jobs to choose from, making it a more essential subject in the long run. The earliest uses of mathematics were in trading, land measurement, painting and weaving patterns and the recording of time. Science is the knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws especially as obtained and tested through scientific method and concerned with the physical world. The components of science include Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Earth Science. Science is also referred to as the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence. Mathematics and science are considered to be more masculine subjects, based on factual evidences rather than emotional and sensitive topics like humanities. Thus, it can be used more in life to state factual reasoning based on people’s actions and why things work how they work. Humanities Humanities consists of different subjects such as, Geography, History and Literature. The singular and basic definition of ‘humanity’ is the quality of being humane. The humanities helps us to understand more about human constructs and concerns, and it teaches us “What being a human means?”. It effectively studies about people, even how we ourselves create the world that we live in, and how the world that we live in, shapes us to the person we are now. It involves the usage of humanitarian values, ideals, etc, and shows how experiences shape the understanding of our world. The history of Humanities can be traced back to as early as 1600 BCE and was even rediscovered by an Italian intellect, Petrarch, born in 1304. He is known as the “Father of Humanism” and had created countless number of works, from literature to philosophy.
