Learning in Context Learning in Groups Learning can take place in groups either formally or informally. Learning in groups enables you to gain the advantage of the input of those you are working with as well as to benefit from the diverse knowledge and experience of those in your learning group. Learning can also take place through certain individuals. This could be through listening to a lecture or seminar conducted by a Facilitator or educator, through interviewing an individual who has knowledge regarding a topic which interests you, or being coached by a mentor. Site Visits A site visit is the process of visiting a site to gain insight into an environment or process. A site visit could be held at a business of interest to you, a government department or a work site. Excursions An excursion is a focused outing where a group is taken to a location of interest where learning can take place, for example a museum or university. Discussion Groups A discussion group is a focused conversation within a group regarding a topic. Different members of the group take turns to present interesting aspects of the topic followed by a focused discussion regarding the topic. Workshops A workshop is a group learning situation where individuals come together to learn about a topic.
