Martin Luther was a German friar, priest, and professor of theology who was a figure in the Protestant Reformation. He rejected several teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. He disputed the claim that freedom from God’s punishment for sin could be purchased. During this time he also confronted Johann Tetzel with his Ninety-Five Theses in 1517. He had a huge effect on his society and that’s why he is so well-known today. One of the many reasons why he impacted his society was his translation of the bible from Latin to German. By doing this, it was possible for everyone to read the Bible. It also made it easier for everyone to think for themselves. Then he simplified the Bible by writing the Catechisms.
