Halloween And Christian Holidays

235 Words1 Page
Halloween is traced back to Celtic roots as a festival for the dead. This festival wasn’t named ‘Halloween’ though, it was called Samhain. During this time, the Celtic people believed the dead were once again among the living. Santino explains how Christians changed holidays such as these due to the seemingly lack of Christ and how they tried to take out Samhain multiple times as they effortlessly tried to “wipe out Pagan holidays” but failed as the practice was celebrated too highly. Halloween as we know it still carries many original customs such as costumes, which were originally used to keep away evil spirits, offerings of food and drink, bobbing for apples, carving vegetables, and even the telling of stores about witches and demons.
