Good versus Evil how will it turn out in the end? In the story in the “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding there are boys that are stranded on an island. The boys try to stay as a whole group so the boys set some rules and chose a leader. The boys chose Ralph to be leader and he tries his best but then another kid named Jack started his own group. Then everyone went to his group except Ralph and a few others. Then it ended as just Ralph against Jack in his group. Based of Good and Evil by the end Ralph is good and see that Jack is Evil. The conch is good because it represents order because in the story the boys having a law with the conch so it has order. The fire is good because it stands for light and light is good because it will help show people the way around. The conch represents order because the boys have a rule with the conch. “Then I’ll give him the conch.’ ‘Conch?’ ‘That’s what this shell is called. I’ll give the conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he’s speaking…. And he won’t be interrupted.” (pg.33) The rule the boys made was so that whoever is holding the conch has the will to speak without being interrupted by anyone else. The fire is light. “A stand in the darkness, a stain that was Jack, detached itself and began to draw away. ‘All right. So long.’ The stain vanished.” (pg.121) This shows that without the fire there is no light so the kids have to guess who’s blob is who's. Another one is “The fire’s the most important thing. Without the fire we can't be rescued. I'd like to put on war-paint and be a savage. But we must keep the fire burning. The fire’s the most important thing on the island, because, because-’ he passed again in the silence became full of doubt and wonder. Piggy whispered urgently. ‘Rescue” (pg.142) This shows how the fire can be a signal because of the smoke the fire makes which can be seen for miles. In “Prometheus,” Lord Byron, it says, ¨He called on the shivering men from their caves and built a fire for them,…show more content…
Ralph could be evil because he wants to focus on hard work and not fun unlike Jack so that could mean Ralph would be one of those mean teachers at school and Jack one of those fun teachers who do mostly activities and the activities are fun activities. “Jack ignored him, lifted his spear and began to shout. ‘LIsten, all of you. Me and my hunters, we’re living along the beach by a flat rock. We hunt and feast and have fun . If you want to join my tribe come and see us. Perhaps I’ll let you join. Perhaps not.” (pg.140) This says that Jack is having fun and if any one who wants to just have fun can come. Who does not want fun. It is like saying you hate fun activities. Some example are roller coasters, watching a movie, playing card games, playing board games, playing games in general. Those are some examples but there are more there are people who don’t like some of those but hating all of them I don’t know a single person who does. “When the meeting over they’d work for five minutes, then wander off or go hunting.’. . . ‘We want meat’ ‘Well, we haven’t got any yet. And we want shelters. Besides, the rest of your hunters came back hours ago. They’ve been swimming.” (pg.51) This shows how Ralph is only focused on work work work and be only wants work to be done instead of going and having fun. That is how Jack is good and Ralph is
