Fast Food Worker A fast food worker. A fast food worker serves customers and prepares food at quick service restaurants like McDonalds. You could work at a chain restaurant or an independently owned restaurant. Counter staff takes peoples orders and gives them their food or calls a name to pick up at the counter. They also take the payments from the customers. The duties of a cook can vary depending on the restaurant. Some places will use large applications such as deep fryers. Other restaurants may use frying pans or ovens to make pizzas or a stir fry or even sandwiches. The cleaning staff is in charge of cleaning tables, chairs, and floors. The restaurant will typically offer pre-prepared food and quickly cooked food such as, sandwiches, burgers, fries, even pizza or doughnuts. Workers spend most of their time standing in hectic environments. Which can be tiring, especially at peak of meal times when more people are there. Cooks often work in a hot greasy environment. Counter workers typically are in a more open and brighter environment serving people. They may have to deal with angry, rude, upset or unsatisfied customers. This job may be mentally and physically stressful and tiring. Cleaning staff also has to work quickly. Restaurants have a constant flow of people meaning a constant flow of mess. You can't have a restaurant with a mess at every other table because that will draw people away from your restaurant. That's why they have a cleaning staff to clean tables, floors and any messes that occur in the day. Being a manager is a lot of pressure. You are the person overseeing all duties and work being done. You have to make sure everyone is doing their job correctly.
