It has been demonstrated that specialty units each possess unique requirements regarding falls prevention, however, there are numerous interventions that are common to every unit in the hospital. For example, maintaining the bed in a low position with the brakes engaged, assuring the call light is in reach, and the utilization of non-skid footwear that fits the patient are some common interventions regardless of which specialty unit the patient is residing. However, there may be patients who require additional interventions to assure the risk of falling is mitigated, such as locating them nearer the nurse’s station (Tzeng & Yin, 2015).
