The novel To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in a predominately white town in Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930’s Depression Era. In the novel a black man named Tom Robinson is falsely convicted of raping a white girl and Atticus Finch is appointed to defend him. Throughout the novel many injustices occur which add to Atticus’s struggle to defend Tom. The author Harper Lee uses irony throughout the novel to reveal the theme of injustice.
