Exciting characters, plot twists, and a meaningful message, these are all traits that make up Harper Lee’s book To Kill a Mockingbird. From this semester’s novels of Chaim Potok’s book The Chosen and To Kill a Mockingbird, I personally believe one clearly outshined the other. Evenly match, the two novels are critically acclaimed and highly regarded. Both of the novels having been produced into movies. Although one can clearly see that To Kill a Mockingbird undoubtedly shines above the other novel. Due To Harper Lee’s ingenious ideas and characters one can clearly comprehend the causes for its success. The primary reasons To Kill a Mockingbird surpasses The Chosen include; the immense amount of well-developed characters, the choice in narrators, and the multiple examples and events given that help unfold the theme of the novel.…show more content…
Unlike The Chosen which consisted of only for main characters and several extremely flat and undescribed characters. Such as Levi Saunders, who rarely appears in the novel and only exist to help resolve Danny’s conflict between him and his father. While on the other hand To Kill a Mockingbird consist of countless characters who all possess a hefty insight an overview of their personality and characters. Beside the main characters in the Finch household, the author cleverly inserted other detailed characters such as Mrs. Dubose, who helped develop Jem’s character and give an insight into his thought process.
