What is Global Warming? According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Global Warming is “the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century primarily due to the greenhouse gases released as people burn fossil fuels…” Scientists have been concerned about how humans have contributed to the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The burning of these fossil fuels is what has raised concerns and caused global warming. In an article from the National Geographic website states that “Greenhouse effects is the warming that happens when certain gases in the Earth’s atmosphere trap heat. These gases let in light but keep heat from escaping, like the glass walls of the greenhouse.…show more content…
It also helps solve the international mystery of why amphibians around the globe have been vanishing from their usual habitats over the past quarter-century -- as many as 112 species have disappeared since 1980.” Eilperin’s article not only allows readers to know why these amphibians have been reducing, but also know that the rising temperatures are killing these creatures. She also states how the tropical frogs have been vanishing for over a quarter century and 112 of them have been disappearing since 1980. In Warming Tied To Extinction Of Frog Species, Eilperin refers to J. Alan Pounds, a residential scientist from the Tropical Science Center’s Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve located in Costa Rica. Pound worked with other researches, so they can find the link between the rising tropical temperature and the spread of the deadly chytrid fungus that is killing these frogs. Eilperin explains, “chytrid fungus -- which kills frogs by growing on their skin and attacking their epidermis and teeth, as well as by releasing a toxin -- to thrive in Costa Rica and neighboring countries. The higher…show more content…
The warming of the climate is affecting the growth of human and animal foods. For example, bananas are said they might replace some other crops in some parts of Africa because of the change in climate. In a BBC article Bananas could replace potatoes in warming world written by Matt McGrath, a BBC World Service science reporter states, “… predict that the world's three biggest crops in terms of calories provided - maize, rice and wheat - will decrease in many developing countries.” According to the article, the reason why the biggest crops will decrease is because of the rising of temperature. Not all crops are able to grow in warm temperature such as potatoes. Potatoes are best known to grow in cool temperatures. In the article McGrath explains, "It's not necessarily a silver bullet, but there may be places where as temperatures increase, bananas might be one option that small-holders could start to look at." For example, Nigeria is known to hot throughout the year. Nigeria’s temperatures can be compared to Miami, Florida. Most of the people in Nigeria eat bananas and plantains, the other crops are difficult to grow because it is difficult for them to adapt to climate change. Besides bananas, rice is another crop that is capable to adapt to climate
