Modest Be Hottest

Should Modest be “Hottest”? Shopping for shorts is a nightmare. The great sales at the end of the season are not equivalent to great styles. I’ve walked into many a store with a simple question, “Do you have any modest shorts?” Sales assistants can yield some very conflicting results. I was not looking for those horrendous camouflage cargo shorts that might swallow me alive, but neither do I want that yellow piece of denim that might qualify as a pair of boyshort briefs on a good day. I believe that the 3’’ options are far too short, but knee-length bermudas aren’t always my idea of fashionable. The book of Philippians also teaches that I am to embrace whatever is excellent, pure, and lovely. Dressing in an outfit that is tasteful and respectful to the environment I am in also honors God, who is the creator of our bodies and the designer of each unique part. Regardless of the specific styles I’m wearing or the event I’m headed off to, there are two fundamental questions I now ask. Am I pushing the line as far as I can in this situation, or am I tailoring my outfit to bring respect to others and glory to God? The question I can answer affirmatively determines my motive in dressing the way that I am. Dressing modestly should never be linked to a desire for love, attention, and relationships. My wardrobe, confidence, and personality need to come from something far deeper than our
