Diversity can be defined as the understanding and respecting of differences. Human beings possess different characteristics and have personal preferences that distinguish one from another. Additionally, have values and moral principles that have a strong influence on an individual’s behavior. Diversity can also be found in “age, ethnicity, gender, mental or physical abilities, race, and sexual orientation” (Lawrence, Weber, 2013, p. 379). Working with employees with different backgrounds and skills, can inspire an organization to develop unique products and services that can fulfill the needs of customers. Furthermore, diversity enhances the appearance and social status of a company. Organizations that promote equality have a positive impact on job satisfaction. Due to the facts, employees are motivated and satisfied to work for an organization that believes in the exchange of cultural knowledge and allows them to be part of the growth and development of the company. “Managing diversity involves organizational and personal change, and change of all kinds meets with resistance”. (Sadri,Tran, 2002). There are employees that are comfortable with traditional protocols. Due to the fact, incorporating new ideas or concepts are not always welcome, creating a negative atmosphere that could affect the productivity of the company. Moreover, the language barriers can affect the communication process. Communication is an essential aspect of the success of a company. The bible talks about diversity in 1 Corinthians 14:10 (English Standard Version) “There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning”. Managers and employees have the responsibility to understand the different preferences in communication, values and social behavior. Additionally, integration can be a difficult process. Discrimination can be presented in several levels, interfering with the connection of a team. Managers have the responsibility to promote diversity even though; some employees might be against it. If the employees cannot work together as a team, it will decrease the creativity and efficiency of the organization.
