The demonstration of violence and pressure to maintain the status quo is mostly found in places where the lack of knowledge thrives and the absurdity to have control over every aspect of someone’s life is a priority. As a result, the story demonstrates an overpoweringly charged senseless manic desire in both, the Misfit and the Grandmother. To begin with, the sacredness of the river of Styx in ancient Greece engaged people with the fear that there is a borderline between Earth and Underworld. The river of Styx was the river where the souls would swim to get from the Earth to the Underworld (“Styx” par. 1). The importance of this river played a major role in critical thinking, as the ancient Greeks became more aware and skeptic of the afterlife. Furthermore, the water of this river was considered to be poisonous and able to dissolve any vessel (“Styx” par. 1). Nevertheless, one of the earliest poets, Hesiod, personified Styx with other ancient Gods of Emulation, Power and Victory (“Styx” par. 1). Because of this consideration of Styx, the unattainable challenge for control and triumph over some aspects of others’ lives personifies both characters in the story. “A Good Man is Hard to Find” from the first point of view, serves us with the disharmony and the disrespect that is present in a family.
