Costco warehouse is a membership wholesale club that offers the best prices on quality brand name, merchandise. Costco opened in 1976 in San Diego, California although, it initially only served small business, they found serving a selected audience of non-business owners would also be beneficiary. With that change the growth of the warehouse club expanded and became the first company to grow from zero to $3 billion in less than six years. Their operating philosophy has been simple. Keep the cost down by taking care of their members and their employees. Costco’s mission states “To continually provide our members with quality goods and services at the lowest possible prices” They believe in order to achieve their mission they must conduct their business with the following code of ethics. Obey the law, take care of our members, take care of our employees, and respect our suppliers. They believe these four things will help in assisting them in achieving their ultimate goal, which is to reward their shareholders.…show more content…
The company pays a living wage to their employees. The starting pay is $11.50 per hour but the average employee makes around $21.00 per hour. Considering retail that is a pretty good amount of money, while most retails state their wages at minimum wage. They also pay two bonus checks per year starting at $2500 for less than ten years of service but up to $4000 for 20 years of service or more. They offer company sponsored health insurance, paying 90% of all premiums. Being able to work making a decent earning without having to take from your income to pay for health insurance is so important to employees. Caring about peoples’ health and them being able to get the healthcare needs taken care of because the company is willing to go an extra mile in sponsoring health
