Today we will go through the process of setting up and shooting the compound bow. Sometime will be spent on the basic set up to get you shooting. After we have the bow set up the next step is taking a shot with the bow. Now that the first shot has been sent down range the process starts to get the bow sighted in for a consistent shot. The practice routine is the most important part of being a great shot. Setting up a compound bow can be tedious. The first step in get your bow set up right is the draw length. Once the shooter is at full draw, put a mark on the string as close to the middle of the eye as possible. Once the bow is let down and relaxed it is time to insert the peep sight. There are a few things to remember when shooting a bow. First off you need to find a comfortable anchor spot. What is an anchor spot you ask? The anchor spot is the location that your hand lands on the side of your face when you have the bow at full draw. Drawing the bow back to this position is one of the most important aspects of shooting the bow with any consistency. The next aspect to cover is release trigger discipline. To release the arrow down range the trigger need to be squeezed with a constant pressure, not jerked or pulled. A good trigger squeeze will be quit beneficial in a consistent arrow grouping. We now have the basics in place to take the first shot. Your first arrow sent down range will be from about ten yards. This is done to get the bow shooting in the general area intended. To become the best archer you can takes practice a lot of practice. Along with practice a shooter needs to find their effective shooting range. So what is an effective shooting range? It is the farthest shot one can take and still hit the bullseye with precision and confidence. The easiest way to find your effective range is to sprint from the yardage you want to shoot from to the target and back three times. Grab the bow and shoot three arrows, if you hit the intended spot on the target with all three arrows you have found an effective range. Along with finding your yardage comfort zone getting to be the best shooter you can depends on you the shooter doing the same thing the same way every shot.
