During a seminar, I watched a video called “Dancing on Our Turtle’s Back”. The speakers name was Leanna Simpson. She had a lot of interesting things to say, but the one that that stood out for me was a personal story of hers. Leanne was mentored by elders and whenever they went into the forest, the elders would stop and tell her to look back at the landscape and then to keep going. They did this repeatedly and it would help them get back home because the perspective is different both ways. She said that this way helped them stay alive, safe and connected to the landscape.
