Christianity and Islam are the two major religions of the world. They have a variety of similarities such as being monotheistic and having holy books. However, these religions are very diverse as they have a very different set of beliefs and they have different uses for their place of worship. Both Christianity and Islam have a variety of similarities, including the fact that they are both monotheistic. Monotheistic means believing in the existence of only one supreme being or god. As part of the 5 pillars of faith in Islam, one of the pillars, Shahada which means Testimony, declares that there is only one god, Allah. The first difference is that Christians go to a church for worship, and Muslims go to a mosque to worship. A church has usually many symbols, such as the cross, and many icons and figures inside of it. A mosque has no icons or figures of anyone inside the building. A church doesn’t require people who wish to enter to wash their hands and feet. A mosque does require a washing of the hands and feet. Christianity and Islam both have very diverse beliefs. Islam holds the Five Pillars of Islam as its most important set of beliefs. The Five Pillars consist of: Shahada, Salat, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj. Shahada is the declaration of fate that Muhammad is a prophet and the only god is Allah. Salat is a 5-times-a-day prayer that must be making Mecca. Zakat is an almsgiving (charity) to the poor. People must give 2.5% to the less fortunate. Sawm is a fasting that is required for all able bodied people during the month of Ramadan. Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca that is required of all able men. Christianity there is no specific name for the core beliefs although they are present. The most important belief is the belief in the Trinity: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit.
