The Care Value Base The Care Value Base is ‘A range of standards for Health and social care. It is designed to guide the practice of professionals working in this area. The overall aim of the standards is to improve client’s quality of life, by ensuring that each person gets the care that is most appropriate for them as an individual’ (Classroom Notes, 2014). It is important that the Care Value Base is in force so that patients are not at risk and that staff don’t take advantage of patients that are unable to protect themselves. Also the surgery has a number of staff that can speak a variety of languages and can be requested when booking an appointment. The surgery has an easy access website which contains the surgery’s address for patients who need to write and request specific communication. This can help to create a positive care environment because patients can relax knowing they have been able to communicate in a way they can feel comfortable and that their requests have been heard and taken into consideration. The second example of the Care Value Base in a GP surgery is Confidentiality. Confidentiality is keeping information, such as research data or personal or hidden information private. It ensures that information is private and is not available for other people to see or hear it also for it not to be discussed openly and that in relations to research, the information needed for the purpose of research is only made available to the health or social care researchers and only after gaining permission (Classroom Notes, 2014)/ (Billingham et al,…show more content…
A patient feels well cared for and safe knowing that their personal and private information is safe. The patients’ right to be allowed access to information about themselves is also protected by the Data Protection Act as it states that a patient has the right to access their personal data as it is a patients legal right. Confidentiality also protects the patients’ right to privacy. A GP must always close the door when in a session with a patient, so that other people cannot hear private conversations as this would respect a patient’s right to be given privacy. Confidentiality also protects the right to be protected from harm or danger. A GP can only disclose information when they believe a patient is in danger because they may be suffering from abuse, may harm others or themselves. The GP has a duty to protect their patient from any form of harm. Also Patients information cannot be shared overseas; this is also protected by the Data Protection Act. This is so that information cannot be sent to another country unless they have an equal protection of information ensuring that even overseas their patients are
