The Boeing Company was founded July 15, 1916 in Seattle, Washington by William Boeing. It has grown tremendously, and is currently the largest aircraft manufacturer and defense contractor in the world. Boeing provides product and support to clients in 150 different countries worldwide, and is also the biggest US exporter sales wise. The company saw a 26 percent increase in profits for the 4th quarter of 2013 due to higher demands for commercial aircrafts. There are thousands of aircrafts being build each year and used worldwide. Aircrafts were first made in early parts of the 20th century. The industry at first was slow but gradually increased in production. There was a big boom in the industry between the two world wars with the development of tens of thousands of aircrafts. During WW11 Boeing created the B-17 and B-29, as well as the P-51 mustang fighter. Today's aerospace industry is worth hundreds of billions of dollars. The exact worldwide number of workers in aerospace industry in unknown. However, the US alone has more than 500,000 employees in scientific and technical fields, as well as over 700,000 in relating fields. As time progresses, new better and more sophisticated technologies are discovered. Boeing is incorporating these into newer models of aircrafts, satellite, rockets and etc. Whether being a new more fuel efficient engine or clearer more advance radar system, Boeing is trying to make its products the best in the business. Boeing faces aggressive international competitors who are intent on increasing their market share, such as Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier and, to some extent, from entrants from Russia (Irkut - United Aircraft Corporation), China (COMAC) and Japan (Honda Aircraft and Mitsubishi Aircraft). Boeing is focused on improving its processes and continuing cost reduction efforts. The company intends to continue to compete with other airplane manufacturers by providing customers with greater value products, services, and support. In order to maintain leadership position and gain competitive advantages in airplane manufacture industry, Boeing required having a sustainable marketing strategy. Boeing had to find an efficient way of developing and building airplanes and for that reason they changed the entire production systems and they revamped their marketing strategies in terms of low-cost strategy.
