Bobwhite population sizes in the Eastern Rolling Plains of Texas have been in decline since 2008. In an effort to restore this population, Downey tested the success of translocating bobwhite populations in increasing population sizes over a 2 year period. Translocation involves moving a population to a new location that is a substantial distance away from their original habitat, but this practice is typically a last resort for wildlife conservationists. Success was measured in terms of bobwhite survival, site fidelity, reproductive efforts, and relative abundance.
