Transgender: Adj. Of, relating to, or denoting a person who identifies with a gender identity that differs from the one they were assigned at birth. The concept of being transgender, while not necessarily a new phenomenon, has only recently become known to the general public. The now outdated term transsexual was coined by a German physician in 1923, less than 100 years ago. Even today, transgender people are still fighting for rights in housing, jobs, the military, prison, schools, and much more. Acceptance is an easy road for no minority. A distinct parallel can be drawn between the struggles of transgender people today and the struggles of gay people in the recent past.
