Barriers are factors which can prevent a person to communicate with other people around them. There are many different barriers which may be experienced by people with additional needs. These include: discrimination, employment opportunities, cultural, physical access, attitudinal, communication, barriers to access and opportunities, financial and lack of choice. Discrimination Discrimination is a type of barrier which may be experienced by people with additional needs. Discrimination is when a person with additional needs is treated unequally and is not treated as a human being compared to a person who does not have additional needs. Discrimination can have a huge impact on the life of a person with additional needs. An example of this includes: if a person has a disability such as a speaking impairment, then it may become really difficult for them to heart or see and they may find it quite difficult to communicate especially with other people around them. Also, if a person has a disability such as speech impairment, then other people may find it hard to understand what the person with speech impairment is telling them, and this can lead to the person with learning disability and the other person they are communicating with to become angry and irritated. In the same way, if a person is unable to hear what other people next to them are saying, then this may mean that they will not be able to understand what other people are saying to them. Also, if a person is not able to see, then they may find it difficult to understand other people if what other people are telling them is not clear enough. If a person who has a disability is finding it difficult to communicate, then this can often make them feel lonely and
