Animal experimentation has been a widely discussed topic for years now, both by activists and scientists alike in order to determine whether it is pure cruelty or science. About 1.4 million animals die each year in animal experiments and such a number arises many questions regarding morale. Is animal experimenting morally right or wrong? While most of the people think that animals undergo painful suffering or death which is not justified by the the results the scientists get, others see it as the necessary evil without which many of the medical achievements in the 20th and the 21st century would not be possible. This essay will present arguments for both sides as well as my opinion on the subject. Firstly, there are not many upsides regarding animal testing. Truth is that many medical treatments and procedures have been developed from experiments with various animals. Since animals share quite a number of features with humans, it is logical that scientists would use them for testing of the product’s effectiveness and safety before using it on patients. One of the most debated aspect of the animal experiment is whether the testing is cruel and inhumane. Animals are often subjected to force feeding, water and food deprivation and physical pain in order to study healing process or effects of pain.
