Abu Dhabi has one of the world's largest solar power plants called Shams 1. The 100-megawatt plant covering a total area of approximately 2.5 km2 is a first step in a plan to make seven percent of Abu Dhabi's energy resources renewable, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, head of the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, said during a news conference. Shams 1 Plant is expected to displace 175,000 tons of CO2 every year, equivalent to planting 1.5 million trees or taking approximately 15,000 cars off the road. In Brunei Darussalam, due to the Sultanate's exposure to the equatorial sunshine, the OBG 2010 report cites solar energy as one of Brunei's most promising forms of alternative energies.
