The Mystery of Serial Killers Social Deviance Jessica Garcia December 8th, 2014 Abstract Serial killers often seem like ordinary people and have regular lives. They are typically white men that have an average job. The term serial killer has no set definition. Although, there is a federal law that does define serial killings. In 1998, a federal law was passed titled, Protection of Children from Sexual Predator Act of 1998 (FBI, 2005). During the late 1960s, there was a man of the age of twenty-one who was terrorizing Colombia. His name was Pedro Alonso Lopez. Lopez was said to have killed over three hundred girls. In the mid of the 1970s, there was a British Doctor who was named “The Angel of Death” and also named “Doctor Death”, this mans name was Dr. Harold Shipman. This British Doctor has been accused of killing over 250 people. There was a man in the late 1960s who was never caught and goes by the name “the Zodiac Killer”. According to the Protection of Children from Sexual Predator Act of 1998, serial killings is when the act of three or more killings has occurred in the United States by the same person. During the late 1960s a murder who called himself “Zodiac” intimidated he regions of California. The Zodiac Killer has confessed to thirty seven murders, but only seven were confirmed and two survived. Along with these murders the zodiac killer taunted local police and newspapers. Many have been suspected to be the killer, but due to lack of equipment no one was convicted and the killer was never caught to this
