I chose to go into the field of nursing after participating in nursing oriented classes at high school. In these classes I was able to receive hands-on experience caring for patients in a nursing home. I felt as if I was able to make a difference in patient's lives by being able to connect with them in a way that is only possible by being their nurse. Originally I found interest in the healthcare field after having speech therapy as a young child. I wanted to go into speech pathology when I first looked into the healthcare field. Yet, I soon realized I wanted to be a more prominent member of the healthcare team and nursing was a good fit. A nurse that truly helps her patient is the kind who cares for them as a person first and a patient second. I have learned from personal experience that seeing your loved ones in the hospital is not something that should be taken lightly and respect must be given even by nurses who see people worse off numerous times a day. This is why I wish to be a nurse who will be able to help with not only medicine but also by being a smiling face to those patients who need it. Another thing I love about nursing is it is a popular profession in the 21st century. Nursing is a profession that has always and will always be needed. The world wide web played a huge impact in the spread of information including medical information. Now, people will type their symptoms into a search engine and get an answer to what they might be suffering from. There are watches that can tell a person their heart rate. The ideas that this information is at people’s fingertips was totally unimaginable twenty years
