WHY DID TEXAS ALMOST FAIL AS A TEXAS COLONY? Many great events happened during the 1500’s. Leonardo di Vinci painted the world renowned Mona Lisa, William Shakespeare composes plays, and William of Orange rules the Netherlands. But something that many people don’t know is that in 1519 the very first Spanish ships sailed up to Texas. This revolutionary time made way for many other triumphs for the Spaniards. But a few things did not go so well. At that time Texas was being claimed for Spain. The plan was for Spaniards to completely populate Texas but that didn’t happen.
