The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls The Glass Castle is a true story about a girl named Jeannette Walls who has a rough upbringing living a lower class life with her three siblings Lori, Brian, and Maureen and with their mom and dad. The children are deeply affected by their parents' dysfunctional actions. Jeannette's dad suffers from a drinking problem but also is a paranoid individual who questions organized society and, as a result, makes the family move to live in different places. The family moves to a town called Battle Mountain in Nevada in which Jeannette and her brother Brian spend a lot of time exploring the desert. The family later on has a minor setback with law enforcement that makes them live in Phoenix where her mom takes over her mother's house. In Phoenix, they stay for awhile since it works out well for them…show more content… They eventually move to Welch, West Virginia in hopes that Jeannette's dad's family would be able to help them in their struggles with money and also the alcoholism. Welch turns out to make more problems in the family when his dad's mother sexually abuses Brian. As Jeannette enters her teen years, she starts to question her parents choices and starts to rebel against them. Jeannette and her older sister Lori then move to New York City together since it has been their dream to live there. Jeannette starts her job of being a reporter in New York City. The sisters eventually have a roof over their heads and food to eat. Their siblings Brian and Maureen move in with them later on. They start new lives together while their mom has to go to a mental institution, and their dad is on his last legs from long-term alcohol and cigarette use when he isn't
