Sartor et al. studied the effects trauma had on women participants in drug court. They looked at makeup of women’s families and socioeconomic status as they relate to trauma assaults and or upbringings from childhood. Most of the women were diagnosed as having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) defined as a terrifying event they could not forget about, that interfered with their daily living. These events included sexual assault, sexual abuse, stabbing, shot, and beaten and more. Exposures to traumatic events help lend to substance abuse among the women. These experiences stall many of the women from progressing in life. They remain poor and tend to be less educated than women who did not experience trauma or as substantial trauma as they
