Leaving the military can be a tough maneuver to overcome and can be a intimidating experience for most Veterans. Firstly the adversity of being a Veteran who has served and not finding a job. Secondly the hardships leaving the military to enter school, scarcely making ends meet and finally accepting help when requiring it. As an outcome of these life lessons, I acknowledge the reason for supporting transitioning Veterans out of the military, the reason for higher education and helping out a Veteran in need. Texas seem to be the most obvious place in the world to master a degree in Engineer and surround myself with extraordinary people like other Veterans. Friends and family were somewhat shocked at my response to depart for school after being discharged from the military. They expected me to return home, since I had no support system and I would be facing the vigorous demands of school. They understood that at times, Veterans financially struggle and just barely get by, end up just wasting their lives away. It was true, I had issues in my life, paying my bills and therefore barely being able to keep up in class or comprehend the material or homework when performing a minimum pay job or even being jobless. Since January of this year, I have been mentoring Veterans in lower classes who have learning issues in one of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) labs throughout the semester. I'm at the math lab a couple nights a week participating in group activities and spending time with helping and tutoring Veterans at my college. Ideally, Veterans I have collaborated with feel blessed and grateful for this tutoring experience every school semester. I didn't realize that by coaching and teaching Veterans in the math lab, I would become an extra confident person. Now, as a consequence of my confidence, I would like to someday organize a program for Veterans with extra tutoring services for free. I acknowledge the struggles of school can be overwhelming, however, helping Veterans with these struggles increases their chances to succeed and become exceptional
