Implications of Theory X and Y on Management Management is one of the main factors to develop organizations. There are many theories to approach for effective, efficient private and public organization. Among many theories, Douglas McGregor's "The Human Side of Enterprise" in which two motivational theories, Theory X and Theory Y were mentioned in his book in 1960. These two theories are based on human behaviors and defined about the attitude of managers and workers, as well as how worker are perceived by management and how workers perceive their role in an organization. Employees managed by theory Y style think whatever they work is not the profit for the organization but also for their profit and if the company gain profits more and more, they will get benefits more and more. Frank communications between a manager and his subordinates create the good working environment, relationship and cooperation. And also transparency is one of the factors to get motivation. Y style management is not suitable for lazy workers. Organizations become more and more developed due to challenges of new tasks. Theory Y style manager can be assumed as a good leader because he knows needs and wants of employees and thus can create harmony among his people, recognize his people as a precious…show more content…
Public service organizations have to use both theories. Staff from Yangon Circular Railway services is mostly managed with Theory X style. Trains have been upgraded with air condition, but improvement of staff's skills and developments are ignored. Ticket sellers focus on selling the tickets but they are n0t willing to share information about railway station when asked. And also they believe they have nothing to do with profits and losses of their department. In this case Y style management should be applied to achieve better benefits for the department (example, training for customer care etc.). And also, regarding Myanmar U-19 Football team, I think they apply Y style management because they focus on wining the match and they support each other to get goals, who make the goal is not matter. In the past, football team might have used X management style because they were focusing on individuals efforts to win the match. It is obvious they have fail because of lack of team-work. To be concluded for this, U-19 football team (2014) get a berth U-20 world cup because of their unity. I think this is the benefit of Y management
