The atomic bomb is a series of two bombs that the Americans dropped on Japan in August of 1945. During this period of time Truman was president of the United States. The United States along with many other parts of the world were going through World War II, and the bombs are what the Americans hoped would force the Japanese to surrender, in which they did. Two bombs were dropped from a plane, “Enola Gay,” during a three day period; one bomb was named “Little Boy” and the other named “Fat Man.” The first bomb, Little Boy, was dropped in the city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 instantaneously turning over seventy-thousand citizens into ash. America’s hatred toward Japan was very high, and Americans made fun of the Japanese. Opposing views believe there were other alternatives besides bombing, such as just waiting one more week for the Russians to arrive and allowing them to do the so called “dirty work.” Those who oppose also believe that just a description or representation of the bomb itself being shown to the Japanese would have been enough for the Japanese to surrender and the Americans not having to take it as far as dropping the bomb. They also believe that Truman lacked leadership and was by no means ready for presidential power. The atomic bomb was inhumane. Innocent citizens such as women and children were killed instantly, and people were stabbed by debris that was blowing all around. People died of cancer from all of the radiation and from bad burns caused by the blast and amount of heat generated. Citizens also had psychological damage such as anxiety and loneliness. They suffered anxiety and loneliness from being the only survivor and seeing all of the things that went on around them permanently pictured in their head.
