English In Romeo and Juliet William Shakespeare portrays Romeo as a dramatic, emotional young man who is depressed because of his recent heart break to a cold loveless Rosaline. He elaborates on this idea in depth in Act 1, Scene 1 lines 135 till the end of the scene. Shakespeare also portrays Romeo this way with a vibrant use of textual features and language features. Shakespeare couldn’t have portrayed Romeo this way as effectively as he did without textual features one of the main textual features which stood out to me was the rule of three “in love?, Out, Of love?) I felt that this really helped in portraying Romeo as dramatic towards his heart break this is because it shows he is quick to say that he has no love anymore which is a very dramatic statement. Also I felt that Romeo used rhetorical questions extremely well and one rhetorical question that stood out to me was “Seriously? You mean I should groan and tell you?” this also…show more content…
There was a large range of language features used in this play although I felt in lines 169-170 William uses this oxymoron ” Love is heavy and light, bright and dark, hot and cold, sick and healthy, asleep and awake” this depicts Romeo as the dramatic emotional kid he is. This also shows him to either be one extreme or the other he either is full of love or have no love at all. Another language feature that stood out and really helped describe Romeo was (ma’am I am not sure what feature this is?) My sadness sits heavy in my chest. This helps illustrate Romeo has being extremely emotion as saying he feels emotions unlike a normal person. This also shows that his heart break is quite a Burdon to Romeo because if your heart was heavy in your chest you would not be able to function properly I believe that with the healthy combination of textural and language features it draws a very emotional and dramatic picture for
