HEADLINE: DFW Recognizes All Who Served on Veterans Day November 11 is set aside for Americans to honor the sacrifices of all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Thanking veterans who protect our nation’s freedom is a great way to honor the commitment of these men and women and their families. Veterans Day History Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of the Great War against Germany. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11 as the first Armistice Day and celebrated by parades and public gatherings, much like today. In 1938, Congress passed legislation to designate Armistice Day a Federal holiday but it wasn’t until 1954 that the holiday would be known as Veterans Day to honor all American veterans…show more content…
• Attend one of the many Veterans Day festivities taking place across the DFW area: o Dallas County Veterans Day Parade – The Greater Dallas Veterans Foundation is sponsoring the city’s celebration to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. The parade will begin following the official ceremony in front of Dallas City Hall at 11 a.m. on Nov.11. o Tarrant County Veterans Day Parade – The Tarrant County Veterans Council is hosting its annual Veteran’s Day Parade on Nov. 11 to honor the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
