Education, in general, serves many purposes (Bhargava & Pathy, 2011). It empowers a person to widen his perspectives about his family and society. Holistic education imbues individuals with the responsibility of developing and maintaining the socioeconomic system, conserving and transmitting human heritage, and promoting a sensible and sensitive method of utilizing resources. A teacher, therefore, serves as the prime mover of the educational system with the learners as key participants in the learning process. Furthermore, elementary teachers perform the crucial task of setting the foundation for young learners. It has been reported that schools are less than adequate in the elementary music programs because generalist teachers lack confidence, training, and the necessary skills to implement an effective music program. This calls for a music training program for all generalist elementary teachers; along this line, Wiggins and Wiggins (2008) believed that as music is for all children, music should also be for all teachers. Here is an evidence on how music education is essential in children’s achievement and development. As quoted by Plato: Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything, it is the essence of order and lends to all that is good, just and beautiful. (p 1) Essentially, music helps adolescents portray an ‘image’ to the outside world and quench their emotional needs (North & O’neil, 2010).
