Ames Room The Ames Room was first constructed the room was an American ophthalmologist, Adelbert Ames, in 1934. Influenced by the writings of Hermann, Ames made a room that is used to create an optical illusion. The room is made to be viewed with one eye through a pinhole and appears to be a normal cubic-shaped room, with two walls parallel to each other and perpendicular to horizontally level floor and ceiling. The trick is the perspective and the trapezoidal shape of the room. The ceiling and floor are at an incline and the walls are slanted, and the right corner is much closer to the front-positioned observer than the left corner and vice versa.
