Mark Blakey Mrs. Walker English III Honors September 25, 2015 Sleepless Hollow “Villainy wears many masks, none of which so dangerous as virtue…” (Sleepy Hollow). There are many variations to the story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. From the short story to a movie that was created about the legend featuring Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane. There are some similarities, but there are many differences between the two. In the movie there is a headless horseman who cuts people’s heads off, whereas in the story there is no horseman, it’s just a legend. Ichabod is kind of wimpy in both versions, but he is a little more courageous in the movie as he plays a detective who is out to find the person or thing that is cutting peoples’ heads off in Sleepy Hollow. In the movie there is a headless horseman who is controlled by Katrina’s stepmother because she has his head. She makes him kill off the other heirs to the Van Tassel fortune so she can have it all to herself. In the movie there is a man who throws a flaming pumpkin at Ichabod to scare him, but that’s all it is. It’s just to scare him. The Headless Horseman doesn’t carry around a pumpkin for a head. He tells scary stories to the villagers and then he has to ride home through the woods of Sleepy Hollow. His belongings are found along with a smashed pumpkin, but nothing is found of him and he is never seen again. Detective Ichabod Crane, from the movie, is still scared of a lot of things, but he steps up when he figures out that there really is a headless horseman and tries to find a way to stop him. Johnny Depp’s character Ichabod Crane in the movie Sleepy Hollow is astonished and scared to death when he says, “No, you must believe me. It was a horseman, a dead one. Headless” (Sleepy Hollow). With the help of Katrina and his small sidekick, young Masbeth, he summons his courage and finds a way to stop the evil
