Law & Morality Introduction Law and morality are intimately related to each other. Laws are generally based on the moral principles of society. Both regulate the conduct of the individual in society. Morals are just good acts or behaviours. Moral rules are social rules that subscribe good human relations and human behaviour and might be subjected to social sanctions. They influence each other to a great extent. Laws, to be effective, must represent the moral ideas of the people. But good laws sometimes serve to rouse the moral conscience of the people and create and maintain such conditions as may encourage the growth of morality. There exist a number of conflicts among some western jurists that are leading to unvertainely. Many human relations and human behaviours that were considered to be sine qua non to the natural living of the mandkind and that were considered to be amicable social values are fast eroding. These phenomena are worrying scores of right-minded intelectuals. He enumerates such goods as follows; Life: it signifies every aspect of the vitality which puts a human being in good shape for self determinantion A basic form of good knowledge: knowledge is of truth so one can speak of truth as the basic good.
