The first character we meet is Ralph. Ralph is described as the boy with “fair hair.” He comes in the story as wet, out of the water. The second character we meet is Piggy. His actual name is not Piggy. It is just a nickname. He is described as an overweight boy who is somewhat innocent and seems to talk about his auntie a lot. Some of the other kids called him fatty. “I don’t care what they call me, he said confidentially, so long as they don’t call me what they used to call me at school.”(11) This nickname they used to call him was piggy. However, this time is different, as they “jam the [pig’s] soft throat down on the pointed end of a stick which pierced through into the mouth.” (136-137) Basically, the boys have taken the hunt to another level: they’re starting to do grotesque rituals with the parts of the pig’s dead body, and offering it to the beast. They’re gradually becoming more like savage tribes instead of children, as they develop new rituals and beliefs. This is the first hunt in which they do not worry about the beast. “We’ll hunt. I’m going to be chief.”(133) “And then about the beast.”(133) “We’re going to forget the beast. That’s right! Yes! Chapter 9: After Simon leaves the “Lord of the Flies”, still in a state of hallucination and haziness, Simon climbs up the mountain, where he will find the dead parachutist. Simon wakes up and, and his nose is bleeding. He walks toward the mountain. He crawls up the hill and he finds the dead pilot. He begins to vomit from seeing the pilot. He tangles the parachute ropes from the rocks. He is scared to prove to the group that the beast is not real, but he goes to the group and tells the rest of the group to tell the other boys what he has seen. ZACH After Jack asks Ralph’s followers to join his tribe, Ralph tries to convince them not to, using Jack not having shelters to stay safe from the rain as his main point. However, they In the middle of the savage frenzy, a terrible mistake is made. Simon is going to tell the boys what he has seen, which is the dead corpse of the parachutist, but when he goes there, the boys mistake him to be someone else. The boys think he is the beast, while Simon tries to desperately explain that he is not the beast. The boys start to tear Simon apart with their hands and teeth.
