Promote Hand Hygiene

Clean care is safer care was launched by WHO in 2009. The aim of this was to promote hand hygiene to enhance patient safety and raise awareness of hand hygiene to minimise HCAI. In clinical practice I have witnessed this guidance promoted via poster within hospitals and community areas. However upon researching it has been brought to attention that their guidance states recommendations are only valid until 2011. Save Lives – clean hands, a global annual campaign, was extended on to clean care is safer care to carry on promoting their values and guidance (WHO 2015).In addition, WHO produced the 5 moments of hand hygiene and stages of hand washing which was derived from WHO guidelines as an improvement strategy aimed to reduce spread of infection.
